A Party on October 4th

I went to the party. I was debating it, but I finally decided to go. I really didn't know anyone there mainly just casual acquaintances. It was fun, I had a few beers and tried to connect with fellow mid-twenty like-minded people. Nearly everyone was a comedian, a party full of funny people. I had a good long conversation with a guy named Derek about film, he told me some tips on working in the industry. Derek said that you have to hustle to get your start. Hustle, meaning not to work quickly, but to work in a wide net that catches you as many opportunities as possible. I mingled with more of my peers and see a pretty girl across the room. Everyone kept asking if I was a comedian too, I was giving them all a long arduous answers about how I had done it before, but that I was extremely out of practice and was planning on starting up again soon. I was getting drunk, three beers and two shots of tequila. I pondered leaving, but was drawn to the back deck to smoke some weed. I smoked with two comedians, one was younger than me, but he had already been doing standup for ten years. I asked him who inspired him to get into comedy and he says that it wasn't a comedian, but just the general desire to make people laugh. I liked that. Then he went into a long tirade about how great paying for sex is. (especially blow-jobs) The other guy then explains to us both how the first time he ever payed for sex changed his life. I go back inside. Now I am strongly considering leaving the party. Suddenly the pretty girl I noticed before asks me if I'm a comic. I'm tired of the question and my stupid answer, so I just tell her that I do animation. She gets wide eyed and exclaims that she does too. I almost don't believe her, another animator at an all comics party? Plus she's pretty. So now the girl who I was too intimidated to talk to before has a major reason to talk to me. We talk about animation and life, she leans in close and asks if she can tell me a secret. She whispers that she is working on Hot Tub Time Machine 2 - behind the scenes. Her name is Olney, a very unique name. I ask her about her name and she asks me if I want the truth or for her to lie to me. I ask her to lie to me, I'm very proud of myself for saying that. Olney puts her number into my phone and says I should give her a call sometime, she might be able to help me get a job. We are interrupted by the host who tells Olney that she looks warm. Olney holds out her hand and I hold back and say that she is a bit warm. We part ways, then I decide its finally time for me to leave. I'm always leaving too early from parties, I've got a nervousness. I say bye to everyone and to Olney last, I tell her I will call her soon. We awkwardly try to shake hands, but it turns out sweet and kind. I walk to my car feeling a rush that I have missed for a long time. I think about change and how I need to keep striving to do better and I curse myself for leaving too early. I will call her tomorrow.
